Bryan Beller BBM5 Signature Model

In 1999, Bryan Beller grabbed a red Mike Lull Modern 5 Jazz Bass off the wall of the SWR Bass Amplification factory soundroom and took it to a Mike Keneally gig at the famous Baked Potato jazz club in Los Angeles. He never brought it back, and it became his #1 bass for 20 years and countless world tours with artists like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, The Aristocrats and Mike Keneally.

"I fell in love with it because it's an aggressive rock-flavored 5-string jazz bass," says Beller. "The ash body, maple top, maple fingerboard, vintage late 60s-flavored Seymour Duncan pickups, and original-spec Bartolini preamp combined for a bright jazz bass that did everything right. I can play clean, clear pop/rock and R & B on it, I can make it bark if I get on it harder, and it reacts incredibly well to overdrive effects for the Tim Commerford/Rage Against The Machine vibe. And the playability from the 1st to 24th fret is second to none."

The Mike Lull BBM5 is a faithful replication of that instrument, one that honors the spirit of the original Mike Lull build formula - the best playing, best sounding classic-style basses in the world - with Bryan Beller's rock-focused edge firmly in place.

Bryan Beller BBMF5 Signature Model

Mike Lull endorsing artist Bryan Beller (Joe Satriani, The Aristocrats, Dethklok, Steve Vai) made lemonade out of lemons when most of his instruments were stolen in a late 2016 burglary. Reconstituting his collection from scratch, he sought to rebuild his classic-flavored Mike Lull instruments - a Modern 5, a P/J 5, his own signature model - while also expanding his tonal palette by seeking out other "modern" options from his many contacts in the bass world. Once his arsenal was rebuilt, Beller began using both model types on his various tours. Never one to back away from a challenge, Mike Lull offered to work with Bryan to try and create a Mike Lull version of this more midrange-focused instrument.

The signature result is the Mike Lull BBMF5 (short for “Bryan Beller Modern Focus 5”), a punchy, midrange-y, tight and bright 5-string with a custom dimensioned, slightly reduced string spacing for easier playing at higher velocity. Equipped with EMG electronics, and constructed with an alder body, AAAAA maple top, and an ebony fingerboard (unique in the Mike Lull product line), this is a Lull model that focuses Mike's renowned design DNA on speed, focus, and clarity, and provides a playing experience unlike any other.
